My interest behind the movement I create lies in the daily actions I encounter throughout my day. It is through the simplicity of repetitive motions that I have based my work upon – someone waving to a friend, the swing of one’s arms while walking, or the constant traffic through an intersection. My motivation to create work has derived from manipulating these actions into my own body. As I investigate one’s idiosyncratic gestures, I find that there is an inherent swing in every person’s body. By acknowledging my own intrinsic swing within my dancing, I have discovered a sense of comfort in creating my work. Our bodies are empathetic and through the use of prosaic movement in my pieces, I hope to allow for my work to be accessible to all who watch it.
My curiosity and determination to find new pathways for my body emerged from acknowledging that choreography is not bound to any codified technique - that there are an infinite number of ways to move. This new perspective of movement is the purpose for sharing my work and expressing the boundless possibilities dance offers. I hope to enlighten those who watch my pieces, feed their own curiosity in dance, or instill a similar revelation that inspires them to pursue art.
