Comedians, dazzling costumes and rock n’ roll music integrated into a two hour, whirlwind of a show. The American Wet Dream starring The Lola’s portrayed their love of performing and excite the slightly intoxicated audience all at the same time. On Sunday, January 20th at the Yale Saloon, showgirl Halie Scaletta took the tiny stage accompanied by her small cast of five showgirls. The seductive cabaret dancers were able to enchant the audience throughout the night of extravagant, theatrical performances.
The ambiance was relaxed with sparks of excitement each time a new performer took the stage. The cabaret dancers were the main centerpiece of the show. During pauses, the stage quickly became flooded by solo comedians as well as song-and-dance, musical theatre style performers. The action was nonstop until the night came to an end. The showgirls went through their rock n’ roll style numbers, each of them performing a solo, some were in duets and there were three group pieces. Their faces full of heavy makeup, they strutted from the back room onto the petite stage with confidence as the harsh lights shot towards their half-naked, basically-naked, bodies.

Overall it was an exciting and captivating show. There were some really great dance pieces that displayed difficult tricks performed by heavily technically trained dancers, which I was able to appreciate. As for some of the smaller acts, I’ve seen the same thing done better before. As a general overall experience, I was able to relax and enjoy myself while listening to some old school rock songs which made for a casual though vibrant evening.
