Artist Statement

I have always been drawn to music because of the way it made me feel. Whether it was sadness or joy, excitement or relaxation, music has always been to reflects my inner most feelings and reflect unlike anything else. More than speech or image, I find my most personal expression in the music I make.  I grew up playing the guitar, emulating the sounds I heard my idols make, playing the notes they played, and dissecting their style to figure out why it sounded so spectacular to my ears.

As I’ve grown as an artist, composition has become my passion. My objective is to find the right combination of notes that communicates the precise idea in my mind. My most rewarding compositions have tended to be darker sounding. The idea that something that started as a negative force in life, such as sadness or anger, could become the inspiration for something beautiful has always inspired me.

With my future projects, I hope to continue to express myself but with a broader stylistic range. It’s important for me to explore various styles I love. The goal is take what speaks to me out of all of those classic composers and synthesise something original and unique to my experience.

Bio

I am a musician and composer. The beginnings of my musical experience start with the electric guitar. It was the instrument that captivated my imagination and had a profound impact on my life. My passion for music inspired me to study Recording Arts and, after finishing that, taking up composition at Simon Fraser University where, during my studies, I was awarded the “R. Murray Schafer Soundscape Award”. As I grew as a musician I turned to composition as my outlet for creativity. Trying to expand my pallet and create my own sounds and express something more unique to the world.
