Cristian Nicolas Artist Statement
My visual art explores and navigates from imitation to total abstraction. The work of a visual artist is to communicate ideas, my work portraits hidden mysteries that society hides. Violence, politics, economics and sins are themes that I as an artist am interested to talk about. My work shows my own reality and the reality that I live in, a society full of problems. Society so corrupted that you have to portrait the ugliness to make people react. My works mainly focus on drawing and painting, using sense of perfection in the imperfection, errors and dirt is usual as a beautiful part of my work, especially in drawings. Portraits of faces and cartoon critics are the most efficient way to wake people up. Why am I interested in these themes? From my experience, insults, disagreement and stereotypes are ways that people are able to solve problems, people are able to fight for their rights, to face the consequences of their actions and most importantly build a better future. My work is shocking and uses very graphical content so that I can demonstrate my point. In my practices I use drawing, ink and painting to perform and sculpt, dependent of how much I want to make people feel uncomfortable. Most of my work are jokes against beliefs in order to discomfort people looking at a different point of view.
To be able to see what is wrong with the world you
have to know first what is wrong with you. And my art will help you to be able
to judge and decide if you are right or wrong.
