Fiona Guo Artist Statement & Bio

Artist Statement
As a musician, I strive to acknowledge as many genre as I can, from contemporary music to modern pop. My works tend to be more structural than improvisational. Instead of using traditional instrumentation, I rather work electronically with modern musical software and virtual instruments. Mostly due to the flexibility and easy access of instruments of all kinds. My preferred instrument is the piano but I tend to compose more than preform. Still, with the piano as the one of my most experienced instruments, I tend to think in the instrument’s way. From chamber music to orchestral music, I always tend to write piano first then expand to others. Personally, I find this most natural and always worked out best.
I love to cooperate with artists of other mediums such as dancers, visual artists and filmmakers. Often times we find inspiration within each other’s work as our ideas would clash and match. Music and dance have one of the best matches in art. I do find them hard to work with at times though, due to the difference in knowledge. Which is what makes the experience more fascinating as people of all genres work together for a masterpiece.
