Rongrong Ma - Contemporary Artist

As a young composer, music is my greatest passion. I see creating and experiencing music as a way to spread meaning and love in our lives. In my pieces, I aspire to create connection between the music and the listener on both intellectual and emotional levels. I believe musical sound is a great source of happiness.

Born in the southeast of China, I am heavily influenced by my own culture and traditions musically. Whether I am composing a contemporary or a classical piece, I tend to incorporate my own cultural background and experiment with new ideas and platforms to expand the creativities within music. Music shaped who I am today, because of its unique ability to connect with everyone without any means or forms of barrier. I truly believe that music is a language that will never fail us, and it speaks to anyone with an open mind and heart.

Biography

Rongrong was born in October 1996 in Nanning, China. She began playing piano at a young age and was able to finish the Royal Conservatory of Music program in Canada. Before she started composing, piano was her only gateway into the musical world. To continue pursuing her passion in music, she began to study music composition at Simon Fraser University. By learning from professors and her fellow peers, she was able to expand her composition style and form professionally. Along with the guidance and mentorship from other composers and performers, she was given the courage to step outside of her comfort zone to compose.
